This paper has a threefold purpose to examine the concepts employed by Russian statisticians in computing labor productivity; to indicate the trend of labor productivity in Russian industry since the inception of the five year plans and through study of productivity changes in a particular industry, in this case coal mining to point up some of the problem involved in the analysis of Russian statistics.
