Peter Nguyen

Policy Researcher

Peter Nguyen is a policy researcher at RAND and a professor of policy analysis at the RAND School of Public Policy. His research is focused on strengthening pathways in education and to the workforce. Past work includes expanding the healthcare and STEM workforce, effective organizational strategies to promote student achievement, and tightening the relationship between education and industry to improve students’ transition to the workforce.

Nguyen leverages several approaches to his work—including mixed-methods design, survey design and analysis, qualitative analysis, and evaluation methods—to draw out key insights to improve program and organizational practices and policies.

Nguyen is currently leading projects that evaluate professional development programs for civil servants, educational interventions to improve student achievement in science, organizational practices when adopting new education strategies, and workforce needs of emerging industries in rural regions. He has also supported studies on state-level policies related to short-term and stackable credentials in high-demand industries, as well as  large-scale evaluations for K-12 policies and adult youth programs, including the National Guard Job ChalleNGe program. Nguyen’s work has been published in several peer-reviewed outlets, including American Educational Research Journal and Review of Research in Education.
