The number of U.S. veterans has been steadily declining.
Veterans are heavily concentrated in states with large military installations, including Texas, Florida, and California.
Post-9/11 veterans are younger, more diverse, and more likely to have a college degree than earlier cohorts.

|---|---|---|
| White | 61.8% | 76.3% |
| Black | 14.4% | 11.6% |
| Hispanic/Latino | 14.0% | 6.6% |
| Multiracial/other race | 9.8% | 5.5% |
