Judith Huismans is the research leader of the Defence, Security & Justice team at RAND Europe. She specialises in China and economic security. Prior to joining RAND, she was Head of China Research at Datenna, an OSINT company that maps China’s corporate, academic and technological landscape. Before this, she lived and worked in Hong Kong, working in corporate risk intelligence.  

She has led a range of (data-driven) research projects in the field of economic security, such as on (outbound) investments in critical infrastructure and technologies. She has also conducted research on China’s S&T landscape, focusing on how China is developing emerging disruptive technologies and the implications this has for their military capabilities. Other topics include research security and Sino-European academic collaborations.

Huismans holds an M.Sc. international economics & business from Utrecht University and an M.Sc. international relations from the University of Amsterdam.
