Food environment research faces research challenges. It is prohibitively expensive to collect national-level data, and many valid studies conducted at the local level do not necessarily generalize to the national scale. Furthermore, the field needs better measures to support analysis of food policies. However, given the considerable impact of nutrition on obesity and other health problems, we believe that reasonable and measured actions based on the available evidence need to be considered.
