Scott Boston is a senior defense analyst at RAND. His research focuses on land warfare, with particular emphasis on Russian military capabilities and ground force concepts and modernization. He has worked primarily in RAND’s Army Research Division and has led projects on Russian ground combat capabilities and U.S. Army modernization. His portfolio at RAND has also included several other studies considering wargaming, force modernization, European military capabilities, new technologies, and new operational concepts.

Prior to joining RAND in 2011, Boston worked in the International Security and Foreign Policy program at the Smith Richardson Foundation. A former U.S. Army field artillery officer, he received a master’s degree in International Relations from Yale and a bachelor’s degree in military history from West Point.
