Lauren Blackwelder

Ph.D. Student, RAND School of Public Policy, and Assistant Policy Researcher, RAND

Lauren Blackwelder is a Ph.D. student at the RAND School of Public Policy and an assistant policy researcher at RAND. She is also an active duty Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. She holds a B.Sc. in biochemistry with a minor in space warfighting from the United States Air Force Academy. Before joining RAND, she was a policy research intern at Knowledge Ecology International in Washington, D.C., where she compared intellectual property laws concerning artificial intelligence and collected data on clinical trial costs. At RAND, most of her work concerns military command and control (C2) operations, biotechnology, space warfighting, and understanding chemical/biological threats. Her technical skills include satellite systems operations, organic chemistry, biochemistry, biology, debate, and conducting briefings. Her research interests include military C2, biotechnology, CBRN threats, space warfighting, space strategy, artificial intelligence, and military medical operations.
