Catherine H. Augustine

Vice President, Workplace Services and Real Estate; Senior Policy Researcher; Professor of Policy Analysis, RAND School of Public Policy

Catherine Augustine is the vice president of Workplace Services and Real Estate (WSRE), a senior policy researcher, and a professor of policy analysis at the RAND School of Public Policy. As the vice president of WSRE, Augustine negotiates building leases, oversees design development and construction, and ensures efficient and effective facility operations.

With more than 25 years of experience conducting education studies, Augustine has both evaluated the implementation of reforms and assessed their impact. For example, she is analyzing out-of-school time opportunities in Allegheny County for a local funder and concluding a six-year quasi-experimental study of six communities across the country, focusing on life skills for elementary students during school and in afterschool programs. She recently evaluated a new community school model in New York City. She also led a nine-year national randomized controlled trial on the impact on academic outcomes from five urban districts’ summer learning programs and conducted a systematic evidence review on summer programs, adding to the knowledge base of what works in summer programming.

In her community, Augustine sits on the boards of Eradicate Hate, the Will Allen Foundation, and the Pittsburgh chapter of the International Women’s Forum.

She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in education from the University of Michigan.
