J. Scott Ashwood is a policy researcher at RAND and a professor of policy analysis at the RAND School of Public Policy. He has over twenty years of experience with empirical studies of health care policy. His recent research focused on evaluating state and county interventions to improve behavioral health, evaluating interventions to address homelessness, the association between availability of primary care physicians and preventive care, and changes in health care utilization and spending in response to direct-to-consumer telemedicine. His research interests include the economics of behavioral health care, innovations in care, individual decision-making in health care, methods for evaluating health care quality and efficiency, applied microeconomics, and network analysis. Ashwood earned his Ph.D. in public policy and administration at Carnegie Mellon University.
