RAND American Parents Panel

A nationally representative panel of parents

Parents fill out surveys with questions about topics such as their family, their homes, their children, and their children’s schools. With these data, we can better understand what factors are most important in supporting youth as they make the transition from adolescence to young adulthood. Additionally, with data collected from parents as well as their children over time, we can support research on family dynamics and intergenerational family processes.

About the American Parents Panel

The American Parents Panel is one of a very few nationally representative panels of parents. RAND launched the American Parents Panel in 2024, recruiting parents (and some of their children) using address-based sampling. Use this panel to field a survey to parents. The panel currently contains about 3,500 parents with school-age children (children ages 5 to 17). Of these parents, about 900 have a child age 12 to 17 enrolled in the American Youth Panel, allowing for data collection with parent/child pairs. The Gates Foundation sponsors the American Parent Panel.
