Anca Agachi is co-Lead of the Alliances Portfolio in the National Security Research Division and a defense policy analyst at RAND. Her research interests include transatlantic security and defense (NATO, EU); Alliance dynamics; global governance; the security implications of emerging technologies, especially space and AI; and strategic foresight. Agachi is driven by a desire to understand the future of conflict and security and help devise policy recommendations for transatlantic actors to respond. She is also a Nonresident Fellow with the Atlantic Council and a Junior Associate Fellow with the NATO Defense College.
Prior to joining the RAND Corporation, Agachi served as associate director and resident fellow with the Atlantic Council's Transatlantic Security Initiative, in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, where she spearheaded projects focusing on future threats to NATO and transatlantic security. Previously, she worked for the European Union’s European Defence Agency on defense capability development projects in the information security and space domains and served as a United Nations youth representative for Romania, focusing extensively on the UN 2030 Agenda and sustainable development goals.
Agachi holds a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, with a concentration in international security policy and a double specialization in conflict resolution and Africa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and European studies from the University of Bucharest, as well as a bachelor’s degree in international business and economics from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. She is originally from Bucharest, Romania.
